Mad for Monday (Max's Weekend Update): Hospital Tours, Dewberry Farms, Wild Things, and More!

Hi Friends,

Did you have a fun weekend like us?  What did you do?

That is the plus side.  The negative side is we had some technical difficulties last night, and Mommy and I accidently slept in today (our weekend was exhausting too!) so we will bring you an even longer post tonight (after work) with more photos (and info) from our weekend update.  In the meantime ... please enjoy!

Mommy was still (frantically) preparing for Baby Sister all weekend, but we had lots of fun things to enjoy in between.  Speaking of Sadie, I took my Toddler Hospital Tour at The Woman's Hospital of Texas.  I got to learn more about babies, hold a baby (doll), see the nursery with small Super Babies, and see where Mommy will be living it up for 3 nights ... oh, and of course, won the ladies over with my sneaky grin.  I'm ready to be your Super Big Bro, Sadie!

We also went to Gap to get some new clothes for Daddy's Birthday.  Happy Birthday to Daddy this Wednesday!

Saturday afternoon we went with Gramby and Pops to Dewberry Farm (thanks for joining us!).  We had such a fun time that we plan on going back every year.  It'll be a Fall tradition.  We have so much to share that we'll also have a special "next stop" post on Wednesday that focuses only on Dewberry Farm.  Have you been yet?  (Thanks for having us, Dewberry!).

Sunday was my 21 month Birthday.  How did I celebrate?  By being a Wild Thing, of course.  Actually we had our usual church fun, Whole Foods fun, and SongPlay! music class, but we also .... saw Mimi and Grampi and went to our church Pumpkin Patch to see even more pumpkins.  Mommy was sneaky ... I've been avoiding wearing my "Max from Where the Wild Things Are" Halloween costume she got me from Pottery Barn Kids, but she put it on me when I was half asleep.  Then I was loving it so much (running around like the King of all Wild Things) I wouldn't even take it off for music class.  (I still won't wear my wolf hat / crown, but Mommy and Gramby are working on it).

Finally, I got my big boy seat: Graco My Ride 70 (Gramby did a lot of research to pick the safest seat, thank you!).  They recommend rear-facing for under 2, but it wouldn't fit that way in our car (good thing I'm the big 2 soon!).  I love my new seat.  I even put my car keys in my cup holder.  Mommy and Daddy got it from Target.

Enjoy some photos ...

Thursday Fun: Super Artists

Hi Friends,

How is your week so far?

As Mommy would say ... "we've had a busy, crazy, and tiring week" ... okay, Mommy, I am the one with strep throat!  Yes, so on Tuesday I found out I had strep throat (thanks for taking me to the doc, Gramby!).  But the good news is ... Gramby got me a horsey at the drug store (did you know you can get horses there?), and I am now on "bubble gum meds."

Also a fun highlight of the week... (fun for the adults): For their entertainment only I started saying more words.  Tuesday I said "doggie."  Yesterday I said "I see" and "sh*t (sit)."  Mommy said I just need to work to put them together "I see doggie sh*t."  You can read more about my antics (and more) on our Facebook page or Twitter.

... so this week we are focusing on art, and today we will bring you a short posts about one of our favorite places to find art and other handmade goods - Etsy!  (You are addicted too, right?).  Mommy bought us (me and Super Sadie) a shirt and a onesie (for Sadie) from Flyduds.  (I actually had the same exact shirt from before, but Mommy wanted me to get a bigger size for Sadie's arrival).

Image Credit: Mad Max and Family / Tara J
What do you think?  Super Fly right?  I encourage you to check out their shop on Etsy and their page on Facebook so you can be fly too.  Let us know if you make a purchase!

Once Sadie exists her current house, we will share photos of us in our new attire.  Stay tuned!

Do you have any favorite Etsy shops?  What are they?

What are some more sibling musts that Mommy must buy or do (attire or otherwise)?

Fun Friday: Big Bros 2nd Birthday Ideas and Sadie's Update

Hi Friends,

How was your week?

(Sadie here) ... my Super Big Bro seems to have come down with something as of yesterday.  We were thinking allergies, but now he has a fever.  Let's cross our fingers he gets better so we can be out and about on Labor Day weekend.  Don't worry, bro, I'll entertain you this weekend with dancing in my house (womb).

So we wanted to share with you today a fabulous 3rd Birthday celebration we attended this summer, but we were having photo issues.  Check back this weekend for a blog on this birthday!

In the meantime, we'll share a little update on Mad Max's 2nd Birthday ideas, some Celebrity Birthday fun, and my update.

Max's 2nd Birthday Ideas

How far ahead do you plan birthdays for your kiddos?  (Crazy) Train Wreck Mommy thinks 6 months is ideal, so we are really cutting it close this time for Mad Max.  We are going to check out a birthday party location this weekend (a secret right now), but the theme we are considering is Where the Wild Things Are (you know the main character's name is Max, right?).  Fitting, right?  What ideas do you have for this theme?

Our possible Halloween costumes may fit this theme - so perfect!  Mad Max on Halloween?  Super Sadie on Halloween?

We also found some inspiration for Mad Max's 2nd Celebration on Hostess with the Mostess and Etsy, but we don't want to spoil all of our ideas!

Friday Fun

Enjoy some lavish Celeb babies / kids birthdays from Babble (Max would love all of Suri's balloons!).  Too much?  Or does it make sense for how much money they make?

My (Sadie's) Current Stats:

Age: 32 Weeks Tomorrow (Eep!  I have to leave my comfy house soon).

Height: 16.7 inches long (approximate and not much room in here)

Weight: 3.75 lbs (approximate)

Fruit / Veggie Size: Large Jicama (WTF?)

Fun Facts: Supposedly I have REAL hair now!  Don't be jealous, Big Bro.

What do I enjoy most right now?: I am enjoying helping Mommy and Dada gear up for my arrival.  Much to do in the last two months!  We have some gear to purchase, clothes to buy, space in my room with Mad Max to prepare, Halloween to prepare for, and newborn photos to prepare for (among other things!).

As we prepare for my arrival, let's take a look back at Mad Max (holding his paci straight out of the womb) ... do you think I'll look like my bro?  (Good thing that puffy face goes away!):

Fun Friday: Sexy and Stylish at The Mommie Series

Hi Family, Friends, and Fans,

Happy Friday!  How was your week?

Today I'm (Sadie) going to fill you in on my "gals night out" with Mommy (and her friend Sarah) last week at The Mommie Series Houston.  We are taking a break from our Olympic theme today, but Mommies have to train in many ways, you know!  We will also bring you my Sadie update either this weekend or on Monday.

Last week Mommy, "Auntie" Sarah, and I went "back to basics" at The Mommie Series Houston held at La Mode Lingerie.  We knew the evening would be filled with sexy and stylish Mommies, savvy information, and scrumptious bites!  But who knew these friendly modern moms would also be hilarious?

The Mommie Series Houston event was presented by Misti Pace-Krahl of MISTI STYLE.  The Mommie Series is a "refreshing educational series where a team of experts will enlighten, educate, and entertain modern Houston moms with their knowledge."  Allison Bagley of Houston Tidbits served as the Master of Ceremony, and topics focused on FAMILY, HEALTH, FINANCE, and FASHION.

FAMILY: Neha Gupta, Owner of Elite Private Tutors, offered study tips.  She also kept us laughing (this was a trend throughout the evening and with all speakers) with her honesty.  She offered insight into tutoring that most of us don't think of ... tutoring can serve as a tool to broaden a student's perspective (such as by learning a new language) versus just seen as a "fix" for students that are struggling.  Do you have school-aged children?  Have you considered tutoring?

HEALTH: Dr. Debra Cutler of Kelsey-Seybold focused on the subject of vaccines and our children.  Her wittiness also shined, and Mommy and I enjoyed her talk.  Who would have thought it would be like a comedy show that night too?  She also brought expertise and seriousness to the subject.  She was pro-vaccinate (as most pediatricians are ...).  What is your take on vaccines?

FINANCE: Claudia Kolker, author of The Immigrant Advantage, discussed the interesting tradition of the Vietnamese Money Club.  She also was very charming to the audience, and "Auntie" Sarah is inspired to start our own "Vietnamese Money Club."  We won't go into details because we don't want Dada to find out!  Do you have any "outside of the box" ways that you spend (treat yourself or your family) or save money?

FASHION: Finally, La Mode Lingerie shared the base of our fashion wear - and fabulous pieces at that!  The speaker was so charming that Mommy said we must go back in and visit soon.  Do you treat yourself to fabulous, yet basic, lingerie pieces?

Mommy, Sarah, and I really enjoyed the speakers, but it was also nice mingling with other modern moms (and many carrying fetuses too).  We enjoyed bites from Green Plate Kids, but unfortunately we couldn't enjoy the wine (one won't hurt, Mom ... ).  There were also great drawings and prizes throughout the entire evening, and fabulous gift bags for all guests.  We sure were pampered.

Mommy and I were very excited that we got our first press photo together from the event (along with Sarah) (via Last Night Pics).

culturemap Houston: Sexy hot mamas listen, learn & shop the latest styles at The Mommie Series

Lights Camera Action: Hot Mamas and Bachelor Pad Screening!

Interested in more event photos?  Check out The Mommie Series on Facebook.

Next Up for The Mommie Series Houston: Save the Date for Wednesday, October 17th.  This is their next event!  We are also happy to report that we will be partnering with The Mommie Series to offer tickets to the event for one of our lucky readers!  Did you miss the last event?  Don't miss this one!  (We'll be sure to take some of our own photos next time so we can share them on our blogs).  Houstonians: Will we see you there?

What's your next "Mommy" event?

Have a great weekend!

Tuesday's Tots and Wee Ones: Baby Olympics!

Hi Family, Friends, and Fans,

First, Happy 19th Birthday to me!  Can you believe I'm 19 already?

Second, are you lovin' the Olympic fever?  Or over it?

Train Wreck Mommy and My Hero Daddy are glued to the screen.  I have to admit that I'm often passed out (after a nice glass of Scotch) in my crib before Olympics Primetime even starts in the evening.

What about Baby Olympics?  Do you have or know any babies or tots that are currently training?  I know my little sis is, Sadie.  (Gymnastics, we think).

Have you seen the Guys with Kids promos during the Olympics?  Mad Max gives them a 9.9.  Cute.  And hilarious.  Mommy said she wants to see this new NBC show.  What do you think?

So what about your babies or tots ... or ones that you know?  Are any of them in sports (that are also seen in the Olympics?)

Dada put me in the Olympic sport of swimming (at Dad's Club) which we think is a great sport for babies and tots.  What is another great sport for babies and tots?  Mommy said tumbling!  She said I might get to try tumbling either in the Spring or next Summer.  A friend of Mommy's recommended (or rather, heard about) Houston Gymnastics Academy.  Home to Olympians!  We need to research it more though.  Houstonians: any recommendations for swimming, gymnastics, or other sports for young ones?  What about those of you outside of Houston?  Where did you choose to go and why?

Fun Friday: Our Last Summer Adventure (The Case of Monk and His Margaritas)

Hi Family, Friends, and Fans,

How has your week been?  What are your weekend plans?

Our focus has been on the "back-to-school season" since Train Wreck Mommy returned to school on Wednesday (Sadie here .. I'm still with Mommy each day, but my brother, Mad Max, sure misses Mommy!).

But today we would like to bring you one of our last adventures for this summer (well, really ... Monk's (Max's Monkey)) adventure.

The Story: Has your child ever left (or lost) their favorite toy, blanket, or lovey?  If you answered yes, you may be able to relate to this story.  If you answered no (and have kids), I encourage you to go get several duplicates of their favorite toy, blanket, and lovey just in case (don't worry, Mommy, I won't tell Max).  If you don't have kids, maybe you can relate to this story if you saw TED ... hmm, well maybe!

About a week ago I went out to lunch with Mommy, Mad Max, and a few of Mommy's friends at The Original Ninfa's on Navigation (if you aren't from Houston and ever visit ... make sure to add this to your list!).  We were enjoying a nice lunch (thanks Viola and Jennifer!), and most of the time "Monk" was sleeping in Max's diaper bag.  Towards the end of our meal, Monk came out to of course enjoy some of Max's tortillas, rice, and maybe he was eyeing that margarita.

Fast forward to arriving back home for Max's nap time... Mommy went to look in her bag for Monk for nap time.  Uh oh.  No Monk.  Mommy asked Max "where's Monk?"  Max (being mostly nonverbal) did his "I don't know" turned over hands and shrug look.  Mommy started to panic.  Did we leave Monk at NINFA's?  She did her best to remain calm and put him down for his nap.  As soon as she put him down, she flew down the steps and basically turned the car upside down to find Monk.  Nothing.  Back to the diaper bag.  Nothing!

Then she knew it.  Monk.  is.  at.  Ninfa's.  And worse ... was he lost in the parking lot?  Dropped like an unwanted teddy (monkey) bear (stuffed animal)?

Mommy and I quickly called Ninfa's.

"Hi, yes, I was just there for lunch with my 18 month old son and some friends.  Odd question, by any chance did you find a small monkey?"

"Oh, yes!  We are keeping him very safe."

Whew.  So maybe Monk just wanted an overnight stay at Ninfa's?  What do you think?  We were worried Monk would have a hangover the next day (when we planned to pick him up) after a few dozen or so margaritas.

Image Credit: Mad Max and Family / Tara J
In case you don't know Monk as well as we do, here's a photo of Max with Monk in Disney World (shopping).

Image Credit: Mad Max and Family / Tara J
Before Monk went missing Max enjoyed some "peek-a-book" with Mommy's friend V.

Image Credit: Mad Max and Family / Tara J

Image Credit: Mad Max and Family / Tara J

The next morning we went to pick up Max's Monk.  He was so happy (to see Monk) and seemed shocked that he was there!  And to make matters worse / more confusing, poor Monk was in a body bag.  How rough was his night??  (Photo: Outside of Ninfa's).

Image Credit: Mad Max and Family / Tara J

... if you like our Monk story you will also love this story about a Stuffed Giraffe (Stuffed Giraffe Shows What Customer Service is All About).

I will be back next week with my "Sadie Update."  In the meantime ... do you have any toy, blanket, or lovey stories to share?

Have a great weekend!

Tuesday's Tots and Wee Ones: Chuck E. Cheese's? Summertime do? Or don't?

Hi Family, Friends, and Fans,

How is your week going?  Ours is off to a pretty good start!

Train Wreck Mommy took me (and Super S) on our first trip to Chuck E. Cheese's.  That's right.  You heard me right.  Chuck E. Cheese's.  You know that place, Where A Kid Can Be A Kid?  (Or a Tot Can Be A Tot!).  Most parents would probably avoid Chuck E. Cheese's (CEC) at all costs.  But not my Train Wreck Mommy!  She said Chuck E. Cheese's is a special place, and it is a summertime MUST.  What do you think?

CEC was her first job, and she said it was the BEST job.  Well, after visiting, I can see why!  So we met her friend S (a friend from high school that also worked with her a CEC back in the 1900s) and her daughter A.  Did y'all ride a horse to work, Mommy?

Image Credit: Mad Max and Family / Tara J
A and Chuck E.  I was weary of that guy at first!  Show off.

Image Credit: Mad Max and Family / Tara J
Umm, Mommy?  What is this?  Where is Chuck E.'s iPhone game?

Image Credit: Mad Max and Family / Tara J
A and "Auntie" S!

Image Credit: Mad Max and Family / Tara J
So... weather's nice today, no?  Ummm.  Awkward silence.  I can take you for a ride in that Chuck E. car?  If we leave now, the Moms might not notice!

Image Credit: Mad Max and Family / Tara J
I love this guy!  Hey, Chuck E.!  But I'm going to stay back here.  Safe distance.  By the way, Mommy wanted me to tell the readers that it is very hard for her to get good pics of a walking tot with her big ol' belly (aka Sadie's house), her bum leg, and while carrying a bag.  Excuses, I say!

Image Credit: Mad Max and Family / Tara J
Da*n things won't stay down.

Image Credit: Mad Max and Family / Tara J
Future Fireman in training.

Image Credit: Mad Max and Family / Tara J
Now I'm okay with getting a little closer to the big cheese (no pun intended).  Mommy said, "turn around Max so I can take a picture!" ... Umm, would YOU turn your back to this guy?

So yes, CEC is definitely a great place for Tots.  But what about Wee Ones?  I'd say they would still enjoy the colors, lights, and sounds!  I'm sure we will take Sadie here soon!

Finally ... a little fun, last but not least ...

Image Credit: Mad Max and Family / Tara J
A few weeks ago I started making faces (well more than faces, it involves hand gestures), and Mommy calls it "STRESS FACE."  She was finally able to capture a photo of some of it.  More to come!  What do you think?  Do you have a stress face?

So what do you think?  CEC on your MUST DO list this summer?  Or are you staying far away?  And what are you up to this week?  Don't forget to visit us at Mad About Town.

-Mad Max

Fun Friday: Super Sesame's (Sesamina) big name reveal is ... (drull roll please)

Hi Family, Friends, and Fans,

Sesame here.  I have some big news to share with you today!

My name is ... (wait for it) ...

Image Credit: Mad Max and Family / Tara Johnson

My mouse ears from Disney World!  Thanks Mama and Dada!

Image Credit: Mad Max and Family / Tara Johnson
How does my name look on my ears?  My name is Sadie June.  Sadie because my Mama and Dada love it (Dada's idea), and June because of my Great Grandma L, her middle name was June.  We love and miss you G Grandma L!

So basically I sound like a Southern Belle, no?

Image Credit: Mad Max and Family / Tara Johnson

Image Credit: Mad Max and Family / Tara Johnson

My mouse ears with my Big Bro's mouse ears!  What do you think?

How did you reveal your little one's name?  Or how have you seen names revealed?

My (Sesame's) Current Stats:

Age: 22 Weeks.  Over the Hill?  I hope Mama and Dada are starting to prepare for my arrival!  How did you prepare for baby #2?

Weight: After vacation, whew, who knows... !!!  Almost 1 pound (approximate)

Height: 11 inches (approximate)

Fruit / Veggie Size: Spaghetti squash (wow, I sound huge!)

Fun Facts: I'm beginning to look like a miniature newborn!  Wait, what did I look like before?  Geez.

What do I enjoy most right now?: I enjoy hot sauce.  When Train Wreck Mommy has hot sauce I wake up.  I also enjoy long walks on the beach and pink roses.

And some more Friday Fun, Auntie Tam sent us this great (FUNNY) link.  It's a must listen!  And one of the little girls has my name: NPR Reporter Interviews His Two Little Girls After One Gives The Other "The Worst Haircut Ever".

Fun Friday: March Madness

Hi Family, Friends, and Fans,

How was your week?

We are sorry that we've been away.  We tried to do more blog posts ahead of time before we left for our trip, but our Internet connection decided to go on vacation too (which upset My Hero Daddy and Train Wreck Mommy ... they like to watch Parenthood on Netflix (their latest TV Show addiction)).  Then ... Mommy and I were recovering from our trip.  No fears, we are up and running now ... back for Fun Friday!

Image Credit: Mad Max and Family / Tara Johnson

This image above is probably enough for Fun Friday!  Don't I look ridiculous?  This is from the Oklahoma City Thunder game from earlier this week.  I have lots to update you on about our 2nd Annual Rockets Road Game Trip.  I'll update you in my Weekend Update addition (along with any fun weekend updates)!

The spirit of basketball is a big focus for us this week with our Rockets Road Game Trip and March Madness just began yesterday!  Mad Max loves March Madness.  Did you do a bracket?  2nd best to watching the games is of course enjoying some yummy treats with your friends ...

What are you doing this weekend?  Watching any March Madness?

Fun Friday: Sh*t Urban Moms Say

Hi Family, Friends, and Fans,

How was your week?

If the highlight of your week was an empty box ... then I feel you (or rather, Mommy feels you.  She is the one with the upside down frown week).

A dose of Fun Friday will help.  Did you jump on the Sh*t ___ Say vids yet?  If not, get on YouTube immediately.  I think I should make a Sh*t Super Babies Say.  Yes, it may consist of ohhh ahhh!  Dada and so on, but don't judge.

Sh*t Urban Moms Say

Thank you Babble for sharing this vid this week!

What do you think?  Do you say this sh.... ?  Or hear Moms say it?

I particularly liked the Whole Foods mention.  I can't wait until my Whole Foods trip on Sunday, Mama and Dada!

Happy Fun Friday!

Fun Friday: Godfather Baby?

Hi Family, Friends, and Fans,

TGIF.  Thanks for stopping by.

Mommy's friend (Rita) posted this photo below on Train Wreck Mommy's FB page.  Mommy and I literally LOLed.

Rita said this reminded her of me / Mommy.  Ummm .. (her thoughts were in regards to Scotch and mustaches).  Now we wouldn't be caught dead at McPlay Place, and I heart apples ... but I get it.

Image from Jokideo on FB.

So then we tried to find more images like these ... and we are enjoying the ones below:

Both images above were from Runt of the Web.

Where do you find your laughs on the 'net on Friday?  Do share!

Tuesday's Tots and Wee Ones: Will You Be Mine?

Hi Fans!  What are your Valentine's Day plans?

I'm celebratin' with my favorite gal, (Train Wreck) Mommy!

As you know ... I already have an outfit ready.  In case you missed it, I'll include a few photos below.  Mommy and I wanted to do an outside photo shoot this past weekend, but the weather was bad.  We might go to Discovery Green this weekend to snap some photos.  Mad Max the model.

Here I am in my "Max XOXO" outfit from Chic Couture Boutique on Etsy.  Baby Man Leggings, okay?!

Be sure to check out the Chic Couture shop!

Mommy tried to take pics of me inside ... but ... "sit still, Mummy?"  I don't think so.  Did you pay me for this photo session?

Did you pick an outfit for Valentine's Day?  What will you be stylin' in?

Here are a few more favorites for Tots and Wee Ones that I found on Etsy with Mommy.

Tattoo "I heart Mom" Hat (Babies / Tots) by the hunky dori boutique.  Mommy and I might have to get this one.  Or ... Daddy, how about for Mother's Day?  Hint, hint.

For those of you with twins or sibs (of the boy OR girl variety), how can you pass up this number by Mudpies and Dragonflies?

Or wouldn't this be a nice gift for your galfriend?  I'm thinking about one particular Super Baby Girl in music class that would like the "VE."

Are you looking for the best Valentine's Day cards for your Super Boy?  Check out the printable Valentine's Day cards on One Charming Party.  You can tell them Mad Max sent yah!  (I'm partial to the Super Hero one).

Finally ... in honor of yesterday's Superbowl (the Valentine's Day for Super Dads), I will leave you with two things:

Mad Max's Favorite Superbowl Commercial (a whistling Super Baby ...and a Speed Dating Super Baby?  Sold):

How are you gearing up for the big Valentine's Day?

Did you have a favorite Superbowl Commercial?

Mad Style: Yeeeeeehaw!

Happy February Fans!  You know what time it is ... ?  It's almost Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo time!

And that means it is time for ... Rodeo Animals (and me pointing and going "oohhh!!"), Suburbanites in Chaps, and Fried Goodness (Train Wreck Mommy's fav) .. among other things.

You may remember my first trip to the Rodeo last year: Deep in the Heart of Texas.  I hope to stay awake for at least part of the trip this year.

In the meantime, in preparation ... Train Wreck Mommy said we need to start workin' on styling my outfit.  I told her anything to impress the Super Baby Cowgals is fine by me.  And as long as I have a pocket for my Scotch, I'm good to go.  But seriously, I'm thinking a Super Cowboy Baby / Toddler with a mix of Super Urban Hipster thrown in.... so a perfect transition would be this shirt / onesie:

I may actually have a onesie I can already wear, but if I want to be a true cowboy, I would pick this Wrangler number above.  For your "I only wear black, Mummy" urban babies, Wrangler is the brand for Cowboy babies.

Train Wreck Mommy has been obsessed for a while now with the blue and brown mix too.

So Train Wreck Mommy apparently wants to dress me as a wee baby or a GIRL.  No go.  BUT, if you are a wee baby or a Cowgal, these Wranger Diaper Covers are probably a must.

Now these are more up my alley.  These are Wrangler jeans too, but I found them on Cavender's.

Don't forget your Cowboy hat also from Cavender's.  Tip your hat to the Cowgals!

Mommy and I aren't sure if they even sell belts my size.  Any cowboys or cowgals out there know and can help a Super City Baby out?

And what is your thought on chaps?  Too much?

Last ... but not least, Cowboy boots are a must.

I'm really liking these from Small in the Saddle, but I don't think they have my size.  Mommy and I will keep looking!

Mommy will also help me put together some style ideas for the Cowgals soon.  And more blogs related to Rodeo time!

In the meantime, do you have any tips for the upcoming Rodeo?

-Mad Max
